Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password

We were facing issues with Use Windows Credentials option in vSphere Client while accessing vCenter via domain credentials

Following troubleshooting performed along with resolution

Error

Cannot Complete login due to an incorrect username or password

Setup

VMware vCenter 5.1 Update b

Troubleshooting Steps

• Ensured the Identity Source configuration is correct
• Ensured password has not expired
• While troubleshooting found that we can login manually however we need to put exact domain name for e.g. if the domain name is ABC.COM we need to specify ABC.COM\Username
• By Default with Use Windows Credentials it is ABC\Username

Resolution

• Upon Investigation we observed/identified that we had not configured Alias as part of Identity Source which is optional
• Configured Alias as ABC and it resolved it
