ESX Deployment Appliance

ESX Deployment Appliance (EDA) is a small and easy to use appliance
that makes deploying ESX servers a breeze. It has a very intuitive
web-interface that can configure and deploy dozens of ESX servers in
minutes. It has a script-builder that will allow any admin to create
%post-scripts that will do most anything one needs to get the ESX hosts
up and running! Even if deploying with RDP/Altiris or the UDA, this
script-builder can help setting those up very quickly

Citrix launches XenClient 2, new XenClient XT

Citrix is a pioneer in the desktop virtualization market, and this week, the company announced its second generation XenClient and a new product called XenClient XT.
What we are taking about here is a bare metal client hypervisor, which enables the kind of desktop virtualization in which multiple virtual machines run on the PC processor without an intermediary layer.
The technology preview of Citrix XenClient 2 — which comes with XenClient and the Synchronizer for XenClient - is available as a free download today with support for up to 10 clients.
XenClient XT, which will be available in June, builds upon XenClient’s strengths with advanced security and isolation features.
Unlike server virtualization, desktop virtualization is still in its early stages.
XenClient 2 extends hardware compatibility, graphics support and improves on management and the end user experience.

VMware Horizon App Manager

VMware Horizon App Manager is a pay-for subscription service from VMware ($30 per user, per year) that allows you to extend your "on premise" identity (like Active Directory) out to all your external cloud/SaaS apps. When you sign up, VMware gives you a "Horizon Connector Virtual Appliance" (in OVA format) which you run yourself which acts as the bridge between your on-site AD (or whatever directory service you use) and the VMware Horizon cloud service which talks to all the external SaaS providers.

The basic workflow with Horizon is that admins spend some time up front configuring all the various SaaS/web/cloud apps that anyone in their company might use. Then moving forward, they "provision" an app to a user via a Horizon-based management tool which essentially has checkboxes to configure which users (or groups, etc.) have access to which SaaS apps. Admins can configure it so that users can provision themselves for new apps via an app catalog, or they can make it so that users would call the helpdesk and someone there would grant access to a new web app by checking the box.

How do you enable VMware ESX Server to be monitored using SNMP?

How do you enable VMware ESX Server to be monitored using SNMP?

To enable SNMP in ESX Server, follow these simple steps:
  1. Connect to your server via SSH or go to the server’s console
  2. Edit /etc/snmp/snmp.conf and add a community string to the rocommunity value
  3. Enable SNMP to start automatically when the server starts with chkconfig snmpd on
  4. Either reboot the server (so that the SNMPd will start automatically) or start the SNMP daemon by typing service snmpd start
